Product Description With both a 32mm wide-angle Leica DC Vario-Elmar lens and a 5x zoom, this is one camera that does it all. You can fit more in the photo than you can with a 35mm lens, so you can get more of a sweeping landscape in a single shot. The 5x zoom is great for capturing dramatic shots of small or distant subjects. There's also an Extra Optical Zoom function that boosts zoom power to 8.9x in 3-megapixel resolution mode. Simply set the Lz8 to iA mode and let the camera do the rest. Intelligent Scene Selector chooses the mode that best fits the situation; MEGA Optical Image Stabilization (O.I.S.) helps prevent blurring from hand-shake; Intelligent ISO Control helps prevent motion blur; and Face Detection helps produce clear portraits by optimizing the focus and exposure settings. The brightness and contrast of the large 2.5" diagonal LCD adjust automatically in 10 steps as ambient light conditions change, so images are clear, bright and easy to see day or night, indoors or outdoors. f=5.2-26mm (35mm Equiv. - 32-160mm) Focal Length 2.5 Diagonal Polycrystalline TFT LCD Display (230K dots) Focusing Area Normal - Wide 50cm/ Tele 100cm - infinity, Macro / Intelligent AUTO - Wide 5cm / Tele 100cm - infinity 8 - 1/2,000 sec. The best Camera for a low price January 9, 2009 it's a really good camera but there are some details that you need to know: AA bateries (bad) medium to low quality in really dark and low light conditions (bad) does not come with a decent bag it's just a white paper (bad) 5X optical zoom plus 3X digital zoom (good) uses SD cards up to 2GB and HCSD cards class 4 (good) the box is really little so expect a low charge on courier users.
Great camera at a great price. January 6, 2009 I got this camera for $99 which is a steal. It takes great pictures and it's loaded with features. The bonus is that it can be completely manually controlled which is incredible for this price point. It practially impossible to find a pocket sized digital camera with full manual features. I was going to get another digital elph after the ccd on my old Canon went out but then I saw this camera on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I can't really find any flaws with this camera so far.
My new camera January 6, 2009 I like it alot. Very cool look...althought digital has a vintage feel to it. Nice big screen in the back. Easy to figure out without reading instructions. It has it's limitations like any device but, over-all a worthwhile purchase.
VERY slow January 6, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I purchased this camera after reading reviews that said it's image quality was among the best of budget digital cameras. After using the camera for several months, I would be willing to sacrifice some image quality for speed. This camera is insufferably slow. The moment I was hoping to capture is usually passed by the time the camera focuses on it's subject to the time the camera has snapped the picture. And if you're using flash forget about it. After taking a picture with the flash, it will be 10 seconds before you are able to fire off a second shot. Do not buy this camera unless you are only using it for landscape shots or pictures where the subject will be sitting perfectly still for long periods of time.
Good Value, Slow Camera December 28, 2008 I bought the LZ8K as a little spare cam to toss in my motorcycle's saddlebags when I'm off on a ride. On the plus side, it's small, easy to operate, the lens is very sharp, and battery life (I'm using rechargeable AA Lithium batteries) is quite good. Offsetting these plusses, is the very slow trigger-to-shot reactions in poor light or indoors. Recycling of the flash system is also quite slow. I never seem to know exactly when the camera will actually take the picture -- resulting in numerous wasted efforts. Recently, I've set it to bracket with three exposures each time I take a pic -- hoping that one of them will suffice. This is a very good camera for still life or nature photography -- macro shots are fantastic. This is the wrong camera for action photography.
