retired professor January 7, 2009 I desired a camera that could be easily put into a pocket or purse. It was to replace an old Fuji point and shoot, with a 6X zoom and to supplement a DSLR. The Fuji never worked well in low light and even worse when I used the flash. The Lumix TZ4 was to replace my old buddy. The reviews on the Lumix were outstanding -- however all that glitters is not gold. While the TZ4 worked well in bright light it was extremely disappointing when used in low light levels -- inspite of all it's rave reviews. It was not a whole lot better with the flash. I sent it back after using it for a week and bought a Canon SX110 IS. WOW, what a difference and the zoom at 10X is better than my Fuji's 6X and the Lumix. And the colors and performance in low level light is wonderful. The image stabilization works well also. I also bought a Canon DSLR Rebel Xsi and this little SX110 has a performance that is quite competitive to the Rebel, except the little guy has a much better zoom! And it fits into my pocket!
Best Christmas gift I ever got! January 7, 2009 My husband gave this to me for Christmas and I absolutely love it! I have never owned a digital camera before, and have resisted buying one for myself. In fact, the last camera I used was one of those 35mm disposables you get at the drugstore! I just didn't understand a lot of the technological stuff involved and was afraid I'd be overwhelmed if there were too many complicated features. My thoughtful husband did some research and came up with this one - and it's just right! After fiddling around with the buttons and dials for a couple of days, I "got it" and took some wonderful pictures - even started making movies! It's also very easy to download the pictures onto the computer. If you're hesitant about jumping into the world of digital photography, this would be a great camera to start out with!
This camera is great. January 7, 2009 A friend of mine who is a professional photographer owns and recommended this camera. I own a Canon 30D, but wanted something compact to take on a cruise over the holidays. I absolutely love the camera. No excessive out of focus photos. The 30D has been spending more time on the shelf and less in my hands. The TZ4 is simple to operate and feels like a quality piece of equipment. I liked the camera so much that I purchased another one as a Christmas present for my father.
Excellent camera for the money January 6, 2009 I don't understand why people are saying that this camera's picture quality is low, I'm seeing the exact opposite. The stabilization feature rocks too! This is the best camera I've seen in this price range. Completely satisfied.
Good camera for a good price January 2, 2009 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This isn't a replacement for the quality of a digital SLR, but it does take good photographs, and it's light and easy to use. The wide angle lens results in the "dog nose" effect, if you're taking pictures of people (you'll notice that most of the customer images are NOT of people...there's a good reason for this!), so if you are buying this to take pictures of your kids, you might want to consider something else. Also, VERY IMPORTANT, the rechargeable battery (and charger) is included...I almost bought it separately, so I'm glad I didn't.
