Amazon.com Product Description The Sony DCR-TRV130 is an entry-level Digital8 camcorder with a lot of pop. Featuring a 20x optical zoom, with Sony's SteadyShot image stabilization for those with shaky hands, you should be able to get right into the action of whatever scene you want to shoot. Coming with all of Sony's standard features--including Super NightShot for 0-lux shooting, and analog audio and video inputs--the DCR-TRV130 is a great camcorder. And you get all the benefits of a digital camcorder: 500-line resolution and PCM digital audio. The Program AE mode lets you choose from among seven different presets, helping to ensure quality footage in any situation. A photo mode records stills onto a tape along with up to seven seconds of audio. You also get seven fader modes, eight picture effects (including monotone and sepia), six digital effects, and a 16:9 shooting mode.
Product Description Be the first to buy the best from Sony! Sony's most affordable Digital8 Handycam camcorder is packed with features. It records high quality digital video and audio on readily available 8mm videotapes or Hi8 tapes. You can fast forward to the digital future, without leaving your analog past behind! DCR-TRV130 features large SwivelScreen color LCD, SteadyShot picture stabilization, built in flash, Super NightShot 0 lux infrared recording, analog audio / video inputs to record Digital8, and more.SteadyShot picture stabilization system uses motion sensors to remove unwanted picture shake. And with Sony's Hyper-Precision CCD, you're not sacrificing image size or picture quality. Super NightShot 0 lux recording system allows you to shoot subjects in total darkness up to 10 feet (3 m) away using the built-in infrared system. It automatically adjusts the shutter speed to increase picture brightness and clarity for even better picture quality. Super LaserLink allows the user to transmit video and audio via infrared to an optional IFT-R20 LaserLink receiver at a distance up to 26 feet (8 m). This system eliminates the need for constantly connecting audio/video cables. The last thing you want to see is the dreaded flashing battery indicator - the sign that you've got no power left. Sony's Stamina power management cut camcorder power consumption and extends the life of your batteries.DCR-TRV130 versions for American and European markets differ in shutter speed interval (1/4-1/4000 vs 1/3-1/4000), and CCD resolution (460,000 vs 540,000 pixels gross, 290,000 vs 350,000 actual).

Nice Camera January 6, 2004 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've had this camera for almost a year now, and it's the first movie camera of any kind I've ever used. I have a digital still camera (an olympus 2100cz) so I'm not a neophyte. I'm finding it easy to use. I use to film my wifes speaking engagements. So i've used this camera in a small room with only 5 or 6 people in it, or in very large auditorium with 200 or so people in it. It worked beautifully. The remote helps a lot when using a tripod. It does an especially nice job picking up audio even at distance. I had to get a special cable to do transfers to my Macintosh, but once on the mac everything gets really easy. I guess it doesnt have all the bells and whistles of the more expensive cameras, but if you look over the stats in the discription above, you should be able to figure out this one is for you.
Excellent for starters August 3, 2002 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This camera was given to me for Christmas a couple of years ago. It has good video quality, and the ability to play back the tape using an S-video jack. The fade options are limited when compared to other Sony products, but for an entry level camera it is a good value. I recommend this camera to anyone who just wants to record special occasions and for playing around. If you are a serious shutterbug, I would recommend something with more bells and whistles. Overall this camera is a very good quality at a reasonable price.

great value! April 18, 2002 I was very impressed with all the things you can do with this camera. It takes a while to figure everything out but it takes great shots. It is a lot of camera for the money. I was surprised.
New Owner and very pleased ! January 5, 2002 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I visited several sites, and looked at a lot of product reviews. But after reading some of the reviews here, I decided to take the plunge! I purchased mine for ... less than the stated price here, even though I'm not pleased with the customer service I received from the store I bought it at, I VERY please so far with MY NEW Sony DCR-TRV130! I also brought the infrared unit and can't wait to try it out! I going to get the upgrade for my PC, and I will be set. OOPs almost forgot, both the DV Camcorder kit, and the ULEAD will require updates you can find on their websites to work with XP and they're signed. Thanks again to all those who took the time to write a review. You, and Amazon.com were VERY helpful in my deciding to make this purchase. Ok..upgrades in place, and BOY was it a chore! But I'm STILL VERY PLEASED with this camcorder. I got a 1394 Firewire (Home DV Editing Kit) made by SIIG, Inc., which is supported by XP. and increased memory to 512MB. Why was it a chore? Because I let COMPUSA do the upgrade. I must say they did offer to assist me in getting my camcorder to work with the new upgrades with also included a NVIDA Geofore 2MX 100/200, but BELIEVE me...save yourself the hassle, and do it yourself! In the end I did just that! All I had to do once I got everything set up was make sure my camcorder was turned to VCR BEFORE connecting it to my pc, and before opening any editing programs. I have ULEAD VideoStudio, and MS MovieMaker, and Windows Media Player, all work well together. I was able to make stills, and a CD with ease! This camcorder is GREAT no matter what anyone says! I still give it a four because it was a hassle to get to work with my PC. I almost gave up, but glad I didn't. You will need to get patches for the 1394 kit, and ULEAD from their websites to work with XP. Both are digitally signed. Also don't put an antivius program to the 1394 ports.
