Product Description This digital wonder uses the revolutionary Mini DV format, so it's capable of delivering up to 500 lines of horizontal resolution. That's better than a live TV broadcast! With an extraordinary 18: 1 optical zoom, you'll get close-ups without missing a single detail. You can even edit just like the pros, using the industry standard IEEE 1394 interface. Connect the camcorder to another digital camera or a personal computer for advanced editing and viewing purposes. It can also record, edit and dub CD-quality audio without affecting the existing video. Aside from commercial interruptions, it's like putting a network studio in the palm of your hands. Besides, it features Color Enhancement Light that improves picture quality when shooting in low light settings.
Amazon.com Review If you're looking for a knockout camcorder, we recommend the Panasonic PV-DV910. With its high-resolution digital format, ultra-compact size, and large selection of useful features, the Panasonic PV-DV910 is our camcorder dream machine. It's a good choice for both home users who want the highest quality audio/video and professionals who want high-end editing capabilities. The Panasonic PV-DV910 isn't much bigger than a point-and-shoot still camera, yet it packs plenty of punch when it comes to recording. It uses the MiniDV format, which gives you over 380 lines of horizontal resolution and lets you download and edit video on your PC (although you do have to purchase a 1394-compliant video capture card separately). The Panasonic PV-DV910 was a pleasure to use. Once we got the hang of the menu wheel, utilizing the host of advanced features was a snap. We particularly enjoyed the wide range of digital effects, from strobe-like recording and negative, sepia, or solarized effects to the multiple fade-in/fade-out options. The Panasonic PV-DV910 also takes still shots--up to 750 on a tape--along with a portion of audio. This is a great feature if you have a video capture card and don't want to buy an additional still digital camera. The 3-inch color LCD viewfinder was big, bright, and clear. It swivels a complete 180 degrees, allowing you to tape yourself or let your subjects see themselves as you record. The Panasonic PV-DV910's 18x optical zoom gave us sharp, clear close-ups, and its amazing 300x digital zoom let us in on extremely far-away action--just be aware that video detail decreases with high digital magnification. We found the PV-DV910's electronic image stabilization helpful in events with fast action or when we were mobile ourselves. One of the Panasonic PV-DV910's best features is its ability to dub audio onto a prerecorded tape. In addition to being able to replace the original soundtrack with new audio, you can also layer a new soundtrack on top of the old one--a great feature for adding background music or commentary. We also found the Panasonic PV-DV910's included light useful for shooting at night or in dimly lit areas. Overall, the Panasonic PV-DV910 was both easy to use and offered a great range of fun and useful features. Pros: - High-quality digital video and audio
- Large, bright LCD screen
- High-powered optical and digital zooms
- Two-track audio dubbing
Cons: - More expensive than most nondigital camcorders

Great Camera November 27, 2007 I orginally bought the Panasonic PV-DV910 as a Christmas present for my wife 8 years ago. It is a bit large for her taste, and so she assigned it to me. Since then I have used it around the world and basically worked it to death. I finally broke the connecting switch between the monitor and body due to using the screen so much to support it with my hand. I thought about sending it off to be repaired but found great deals on eBay on slightly used ones and now have two additonal of these cameras. People seem to complain about the automatic shut-off which kicks in after a few minutes to conserve battery and heads. Well, it's like any other equipment: you get used to the idiosyncracies of your stuff and adapt to it. It's easy to re-aply power. The one complaint I might have there is that it takes its time to gear back up to rolling speed once again. If I need to keep it powered over a length of time I simply shoot a couple of frames priodically to keep it humming. Simple. I must say that purchasing the largest capacity battery for this camera will give you pretty much sufficient working time for most of the day and is worth the price. I have a back up of that large size and have rarely needed it in 8 hours of more or less steady use. The smallest size battery will last a very short time. My opinion for low light quality is that it isn't bad, and I rarely shoot in extremely low light situations anyway. In additon I have dropped this puppy several feet on the floor of tour busses more than once, and the damn thing keeps right on ticking. One real inconvience is that you can't change tapes while it's on a tripod without removing the pod. As far as the menu being available on record mode, it certainly is available on mine. As far as I can tell the quality of the video equals the newer models overall, and I have to give this product a final grade of 5- (minus) stars.
Not bad, but needs improvement May 26, 2000 44 out of 46 found this review helpful
I bought this camera after reading lot of reviews. This is the first video camera that I have bought. Few things which PV-DV910 lacks is that it does not come with any software so as to edit the Digital Video in the PC, no firewire cables - even though it has IEEE1394 port for transfer. Eventhough it says 300x digital zoom, the system does not go beyond 36x. The performance is very poor in low lighting. Out door in normal sunlight, it is great. Overall not too happy for the money that I paid for it.
Panasonic PV-DV910 Digital Palmcorder March 10, 2000 33 out of 39 found this review helpful
The key features I liked - So small and light to carry around - The photos taken using the "photo shot" (transferred to PC using ATI pro TV card) are really so clear - excellent price (paid $750)I recommend this camcorder for every one.
Very Good Product March 7, 2000 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
I got this camera as a christmas gift and have been using it 1-2 hours per week since then with no problems. I also purchased a firewire editor (studio dv) and it works great with the PV 910 allowing titles, sound effects, non linear editing and much more. I love the light included with the camera and the size/weight. I highly recommend it.
Great When it Works - If It Works February 27, 2000 63 out of 64 found this review helpful
Beware! I'm not as unlucky with this as some others. Thecamera worked great through my wedding and honeymoon. After that it'sbeen all downhill. I've spent the better part of the last yearsending my camera back and forth to Panasonic. Customer Service is the biggest oxymoron possible here. I've now got one more problem--my AC adapter died. Panasonic wants $150 for a new one, and it's backordered for 3 months. It's time for Sony. If you do buy this product the EXTENDED WARRANTY IS A MUST. You will use it, I guarantee it. I only wshi I knew that when I got mine.
