Does what it is supposed to December 6, 2008 I just got mine. This PC does what is supposed to. Have not tested the external Video cards yet. However, this checks out for all else. Did not have any trouble connecting to my hi-def TV. It started and got set up like other Vista PCs I have bought. It is very quiet - that is a welcome change from another media center that I had assembled 5 years ago.
The ATI external cards come with warning that they run hot! To me that says why these are external. With so much heat being generated internally in a cute design that Sony put out - would have made for a noisy PC because of cooling fans. My old one was noisy for this very reason. A living room PC used primarily for playing media can not run noisy.
Only competing PC in this price range is made by Velocity Micro. That will cost more than $2000 for equivalent configuration. Other custom PCs that go into entertainment rack are more expensive.. I think that overall this is a good buy for living room PC to store and play all the media.
Only fiddle factor that I ran into is - the connecting screw for WIFI is opposite of what we are used to and I just could not connect that till I figured it out.
Not so EASY !! December 2, 2008 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The dual TV Tuners that come with this ARE NOT built in ! They are separate ATI tuners and need to be wired individually. ALSO, you need a "SMART CARD" from your cable company to access the Hi-Def channels. I AM waiting for a technician to come install one as i write this. Also, i did NOT receive a manual either !!!!! NOT GOOD ! NOTHING on how Vista works AT ALL. Very little on Vaio as well. You need to access manual online with a PDF File... So far, i am NOT impressed ! More to come. If the price was $3,000.00 like it has been for months, i would have sent it back already !!! Notice they DO NOT show the Tuners in the main pictures making you think they are installed within the unit ?? LOOK CLOSELY !!
