good for the price January 3, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
does a decent job especially for the price I like the sd card I have a reader on my PC and just plug them in not a 500 dollar unit but I have filmed our racecar with it and burned it to a cd and it looks about like tv good enough for a memory booster
Not worth it and/or the price for it December 10, 2006 7 out of 8 found this review helpful
Well at least, some stuff is cool, free cam bag, the pics come out excellent. The video feature is really crappy and when you play back video its very choppy and the audio is a little hard to know whats being heard. Also you could through dozens of batteries with this cam. The adapter doesnt help only if youre going to sit down and review whats on it or keep the power from draining. The sd card kept popping out for someone which caused the cam to "freeze up".
Bottom line...I recommend at least researching other brands of mini-tapeless cams...but this one...isnt worth 159 or whatever. Its trash. Go for something else.
Great value and good performance August 26, 2006 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
I've been using a Sony Cybershot 2.1 Megapixel for the past few years and except for the BATTERY DRAIN I've been very pleased with it as I am only interested in my camera for snap shots. I bought my DXG-301 (New) off ebay for $76 delivered and they even threw in a 128 MB SD Card! FIRST of all, I read the owners manual (many don't seem to) and then spent an hour "playing" with the Still picture functions (not interested in video). What was I looking for in a digital camera?
A CCD rather than a CMOS sensor, the sensitivity of the CCD (ISO 100-400) does much better than the CMOS with normal indoor lighting WITHOUT the flash (battery drain!). The DXG-301 meets these requirements.
A minimum of 3 megapixel (recommended) resolution in case I ever wish to print out any of my pictures (rare). The DXG meets that requirement.
An optical zoom of at least 6X. Not with the DXG301V, it only has a 4X digial zoom, nothing is perfect I guess.
LONG battery life! The DXG301 comes through with flying colors. Using rechargeable batteries I played with the camera for over an hour with and without the flash. Their was little battery drain and it only took about 4-5 seconds to recharge the flash. OUTSTANDING!
Software. Looked OK but I'll use the photo editor I already have on my PC.
Small, handy size, With my bifocals I had some difficulty reading the control button labels but the LCD Screen gave no problems. I think it's just a question of my becoming more familiar with the contols.
The manual ajustments for the various settings are a major plus. I'll "perfect" my settings in due course after additional experience.
In short I'm VERY pleased with the DXG301 as a STILL picture camera. Does it rival a $500 mini camera? Nope but the DXG301V will go places I wouldn't risk an expensive camera. It will "get the job done" for me. The video part is an "extra" I probably won't use unless I see a flying saucer. I'd gladly pay $100+ for this camera .
Fairly Satisfied August 13, 2006 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I recieved this camera as a Christmas gift about two years ago. I had asked for a digital camera, but did not expect to get a video camera. I feel like the device should not be marketed as a video camera, but more as a still camera because the quality of the videos is quite poor. My interest in photography has recently grown, and this camera does not always suit my needs. (Plus, people are often uncomfortable when they think that I'm recording video, when I'm only taking stills, since use of the LCD is necessary because there's not another viewfinder. This also leads to rapid use of batteries. Those LCD screens suck the life right out of batteries. I found it helpful to have rechargable batteries and a charger, as well. I took this camera with my on a cruise and hoped to take lots of memorable shots (since it's not often that I get to take vacations like that) but was disappointed when the camera would not take focused shots. I ended up having to get copies of photos from friends that went on the trip. Also, when you zoom in on anything, the LCD screen will show a blurry shot...sometimes the resulting picture will be blurry and sometimes it will be perfectly fine. I haven't found a soulution to any of these problems yet, even reading the manuals and fooling with the butons. I tend to be very tech friendly, but this camera is often confusing. Overall, it's good for the price. If you're looking for a good camera for someone who takes plenty of silly videos and still shots from a reasonable distance, then this would probably suit your needs.
